Jumbo the Elephant was an African bush elephant from Sudan who spent time in the Paris zoo, the London zoo and in 1882 P.T.Barnum brought him to America. “Jumbo” was an instant hit with American circus goers, drawing huge crowds wherever the circus played. Unfortunately, Jumbo met his demise in a railroad accident in Canada and died in 1885. This rare Majolica antique figurine of Jumbo is “one of a kind” tribute to an animal who was greatly admired in the late 1800’s throughout the world.
